What is Catholic Social Teaching?
Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love, and peace of God.
The Caritas in Action document has been produced by Salford Diocese as a response to Catholic Social Teaching, which calls us all as Catholics to work for the common good, help build a just society, uphold the dignity of human life and work for justice and the dignity of all our brothers and sisters, especially those in the greatest need.
Caritas in Action provides a unique and engaging set of teaching and learning opportunities for seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching. Catholic social teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world. These are threaded through our personal development and RE curriculum.
At English Martyrs our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially those living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.
Examples of how we live out this call to action include how as a school community we support CARITAS Salford and CAFOD as well as other local charities such as the Little Green Sock Project through our charitable work throughout the year. Fundraising for others in need and accepting donations through our giving mass and harvest collections help us to live out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching here at English Martyrs.
