Catholic Social Teaching is an aspect of the life and the thinking of the Catholic Church. It concerns what the Church has to say about social issues and the way in which Catholic faith should be lived out within society. These teachings are rooted in Scripture and especially in the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospels.
At English Martyrs RC Primary School, Catholic Social Teaching, underpins our curriculum and day-to-day school life.
What we do isn't just because it feels like 'the right thing to do', it is because it is what we are taught, guided and given opportunity to live this out through our words and actions by our Catholic faith.
Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love, and peace of God.
Catholic social teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world. These are threaded through our personal development and RE curriculum.
At English Martyrs our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially those living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.
Examples of how we live out this call to action include how as a school community we support CARITAS Salford and CAFOD as well as other local charities such as the Little Green Sock Project through our charitable work throughout the year. Fundraising for others in need and accepting donations through our giving mass and harvest collections help us to live out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching here at English Martyrs.
